A shadow form of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs kicks in. COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE. Chefs are my favorite example of organic communities of practice. Communities of practice can be subtle. Managers become coaches, not controllers and workers are treated like people, not cogs in the machine.
