Surprises in E-Learning One of the biggest surprises, is that so many folks are unaware that e-learning was an umbrella term, as I noted in the History of the LMS post. Vendors use it to refer to online courses/content. On top of that, they misspell it – the term is e-learning. Here is an idea.

They offer a SaaS version, but that is fee based. They have a freebie version which has an appropriate number of feature sets, then they have paid versions for individual and organization. The freebie does not offer SCORM nor monitoring, but has social learning, assessment tool inc. They are in no particular order.

Self contained app for content authoring tool vendors – iOS should be a priority here, then Android, Windows. iPad/iPad2 and future version support – utilize the features, beyond just having it be seen in Portrait mode or landscape. Choose quickly between a simple streamlined version and their advanced – IMO, I would use their advanced. Podcast viewing. M-Learning – can view on tablets, including iPad. Has a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, simple. No more having to watch the entire video. Video editing.

The Latest: Rapid Content Authoring Tool Market

In the latest podcast featuring Volkner Zimmerman who is on the executive board at IMC-AG, he explicitly states that HTML5 is necessary in any course output for mobile. eBook publishing capability – I see this as a real winner by 2014, but right now only a couple of vendors are offering it within their RCAT, heck even LMS.
