CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. CBT was the “new” and exciting way to learn. SumTotal – Today? SumTotal called it SumTotal Maestro. Sure folks.

Q : I am curious on why Cornerstone On Demand, Saba and SumTotal do not appear in your top twenty lists even though they appear on other sites as the best products in the market. I always hear “I’m looking at SumTotal, CoD, Expertus”, when folks mention it to me. So, back for another installment.

This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

Features include: Extended enterprise – multiple children/sub-portals, each skinned/branded and each on a separate server – many EEs are on a shared server. surveys/assessments, e-commerce, transcripts, ad-hoc reporting and the other standards in the industry (90/10).

One of the first vendors to include the video boxes on the home page, rather than just the text for course title, etc. On the home page the product is able to recommend courses based on what courses have been started and completed – per user. Great educational learning management system. 4 Instructure – Canvas.

Continued increase in the number of vendors, regardless of size or target customer size (i.e Expect to see an increase in systems adding compensation, other workforce mgt features and benefits to their products. Systems that are only available as hosted on your own servers are starting to significantly decline. Prediction.

A trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success. I am seeing many vendors whose products were built for SMB (and more aligned on the lower side of mid size companies) who are now pushing into the mid/upper mid to large size customer band.
