We’ve used Elluminate as our webinar system. Encourage it and make sure the moderator and/or presenter weave it into the session – see Presentation Backchannel Multitasking. Thanks to Scott Skibell , we recorded the sessions directly off the web, i.e., outside of Elluminate and he produced great recordings.

We decided to mute, similar to what we would do with a big group in a web conferencing tool like WebEx or Elluminate. Just like in a webinar, it’s easier to multitask or split your attention if you’re not talking and actively involved. But I think it was the wrong choice.

To me Real Time Collaboration (RTC) solutions like Macromedia Breeze , Centra , WebEx , Elluminate etc replicate oh so many of the problems we face in the traditional face-to-face model.
