I thought about this, as you can tell, and said to myself, okay, let’s write a post where the e-learning history and thus learning systems, authoring tools, and alike are intertwined with good and bad ideas. Then Cornerstone came along and bought SumTotal for peanuts, which was a good idea, and here we are with SumTotal.

A vendor who made not only poor business decisions with the likes of Percipio, but also with the monumental blunder of acquiring SumTotal. . The buy was a bad relationship in the making, one where the owner – “Skillsoft” and ownee “SumTotal” never seemed to get on track with one another. That’s it.

They weren’t the first person who said that to me, it is very common to hear it from other learning system execs, CEOs even, founders too, salespeople equally so. When I did an analysis back in 2012 for example, I had a list of 429 learning system vendors (at that time, I listed them as LMS). SumTotal – Today?

Oracle's ( Learning Management and PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning Management but less so it's iLearning ) and SAP Enterprise Learning score better than I would have expected. As these systems catch up, this will make the market really hard for Saba and SumTotal. Compliance LMS Pro-ductivity Systems 1 7.50
