Isn't there always some kind of central square in a mall where either Santa sits or performances take place? It rides on commercial pipes owned by for-profit companies and we are largely at their whim. Second Life/Linden Lab is really just a Web-hosting company that lives in San Fran. Benches to sit on? No freedom to assemble.
