The RCAT (rapid content authoring tool) market continues to be healthy with nothing to slow it down – uh, except maybe one thing (more on that later). A scan across the market is clearly showing that this has become a required feature in an authoring tool. PowerPoint – Ability to integrate or use PPT in your courses.

More authoring tools - Just as it is being seen in the LMS market. Use of PowerPoint in rapid content authoring tools – this has been a big irritant of mine, since the days when PPT first made its appearance in rapid content authoring tools. Some vendors use chapter-page approach with PPT, but there are plenty who do not (why?).

If a PPT course tool – what can it do that others in that niche can’t? Yes you can create a quick course here, since SL3 has features to build a PPT course. Supports PENS. Supports PENS too. Every other e-learning tool today has higher SaaS than one sector – authoring tools. It has to change.

In 2010, the RCAT market continued its upswing and nothing indicates to me it will be changing anytime soon. Innovation abounded and the push to focus on the “PPT to Flash&# angle continued to shine. If I am an authoring tool vendor, I would explore what is happening in the authoring tool market, what my product looks like, how I can make it better for my target audience and what do I see or others I trust see the e-learning space is heading. . Only a few support PENS, which is a shame, because it really does some very cool things.

In the Consumer Market World. With Video Learning Platforms – video can be what the consumer market identifies as video (usually the case) and yes, equally screen recordings. SCORM 2004 3rd edition, SCORM 2004 4th edition (rarely used), AICC, PENS – all of which are compliance standards, each with strengths and minuses. .

The marketing is slick, the ability has been around for ages (okay, quite a few years). . . . If you are wondering if the “publish once to all” means the vendor is using PENS, the answer is no, they are not using PENS. . However, I think every SaaS authoring tool vendor should use PENS. . Daily Backups.
