Because of the technical obstacles we've not tried out the polling and whiteboard features. The webinar started with the observation that webinar participants are prone to start multitasking: check mails, water the plants etc. Polls are also a good tip and should be part of your design, especially with large-scale groups.

You can particularly use tools to ask for quick feedback, for instance, you can do a quick poll or survey or even call someone to see how he or she is doing. I can see from the way of writing of emails from people I work with when they are very rushed / stressed or not.
