Next week, 12-12-12, will be #10 to #1 learning management systems for 2012. While their UI is very user friendly, they really haven’t done much in terms of new cool features in 2012. Now in 2012, they overhauled that UI, added some very forward thinking features including digital signatures and are now on the rise.

History of the LMS

Blackboard. Who were the folks that oversaw the LMS I read and hear how it was designed for compliance, and thus compliance folks were the main users. Were there folks overseeing compliance, in charge of the LMS, sure. As you can see, there isn’t compliance as the dominator here, nor HR. Blackboard.

Premise that LMSs were created for compliance and regulatory only. If you wanted the LMS to only offer compliance courses and regulatory, that was/and still is, your choice. There was one, 100% LMS that was only compliance and nothing else. One out of a 500 plus by 2012. They have compliance courses. 100% FALSE.

Blackboard is the oldest player in the education space and the most dominant (revenue/sales wise). Some form of compliance requirements (seen in the admin side or already within the system). Who are the Big Three.

Online Educa Berlin 2014 Conference Review #OEB14

The top three LMSs in Higher Education (Blackboard, Brightcove (D2L) and Instructure) were in attendance and a new entrant into Higher Education, Growth Engineering also made an appearance. Lacks compliance standards. And yep, look at the small print, data from 2012. There was a very good amount of vendors at the show.
