No matter which DVD you buy, it’ll play in your DVD player at home; you don’t need different players to watch different DVDs. Source: ADL cmi5 Specification. There haven’t been tools and guidance for the specification to help drive adoption by vendors. Think of it like a DVD (people still watch those, right?).

For the last 18 years, some of the most important work we’ve done at Rustici Software has been the standards-based efforts we’ve worked on with the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL). Since cmi5 was first released in 2016, there’s been a missing piece that has slowed its adoption.

Open Source Product of the Year (i.e. ADL SCORM 2004 CERTIFIED. Sure, other vendors will say you can do that too, but you have to open each object file to get it. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. I said it when it game out and I will repeat it again. Game Changer! Who has time?

When you see many of these awards from organizations – the general mass of them (but not all of them) require the vendor/company to submit an application for whatever category or categories. There is never any pay for play here – even my vendor clients are aware that they may not win best of the best. An additional note.

Some are also free, freemium, or open-source, and you need to choose the one that best suits your needs. What is the Purpose of SCORM? Are any of these in your list of objectives?

This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. If a RCAT vendor tells you they have been in business for over 10 years, they are somewhat misleading, since WBT courses really didn’t start to hit the mark until 2000 and then you have limited choices on how to build. That was then.
