I need a LMS. Q: I’m looking for a LMS that has classroom mgt, can have abc learners see only one course or a set of courses, while another group sees a different set of courses and I need to batch upload my learners. A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Task management.

One of the most interesting items which presents to me an unknown variable is CMI-5, a compliance standard (formally with AICC) now headed up by ADL. That said, everything is showing an increase into the usage of xAPI among LMS vendors, especially those with mobile that goes beyond just viewing via the net through your mobile web browser. #2

I have seem people buy a learning system that lacks any course standards and then, to no surprise, the system that doesn’t have any course standards, can’t accept your courses that are already wrapped in a course standard. Ditto when you buy a system that is SCORM 1.2 only, and all your stuff is in AICC.

Thus, your competition expands: Large size vendors such as Saba, Cornerstone On Demand, SumTotal, Taleo, SuccessFactors – recently acquired by SAP. Talent Management only systems that have existed in the market for years. Social Learning. Peer review.

In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space. Growth Engineering LMS – #1 in my Top 50 and their launch of Genie, their authoring tool which comes with the system, but can also be a stand alone.

I recall at ATD this past year, a vendor who was trying to sell people ahead of time their LMS. If you are willing to wait it out, until many of features I would find useful (and in many cases standard among the LMS space), then this is a system to explore. They sell the system two ways. The LMS is solid.
