I bring this up, because after it was announced that Cornerstone will be acquiring SumTotal, the pundits went out and espoused some very interesting ideas. I never put innovation and SumTotal in the same sentence. SumTotal was never innovative. They were not the first ones with a mobile app. Bottom Line. We evolve.

SumTotal Learning Management – Feature rich system, very strong in compliance and regulatory, knows the space well. They have a brand new built-in authoring tool that is very good, for beginners and those experienced. Yep, we are talking ecosystem here, which is a good thing. Runner Ups. Depends totally on the salesperson you get, which says “sales training is needed”, then again it could be a top to down attitude too. SumTotal Learn. QStream – I will note that their sales response time is average and communication response time can range from good to below average, so average there too. Pathgather.

SumTotal – I should add that in a previous e-mail discussion (which will be posted in my Linkedin group) they backed away from having me see the system front and back for a product review. eLearning Brothers makes terrific products, but this attitude and approach for standing on the edge, IMO, is a minus. A new UI, a new approach and a new attitude (okay, maybe not that, it just seemed to fit). If I was to compare the Big Dog Four – SuccessFactors, Saba, Cornerstone OnDemand and SumTotal by Skillsoft, Saba would win hands down. SumTotal by Skillsoft. Anyway, SumTotal is another system heading towards the HCM space.
