Dreamweaver was not created for people to build courses in, rather it was created for people to build web sites and other web related solutions. A novice could learn it and do some things quicker than Dreamweaver. Most people find this to be a really nice offering and a real competitor to Dreamweaver. Let the Slayers list begin!

We did Online Learning in the 60’s – False Narrative There were systems back in the day, where they could be run on your own server, used via a CD-ROM, via WAN or LAN, but to me, that isn’t and e-learning LMS. If you wanted the LMS vendor to host their LMS on their own servers, you could – thus 100% online.

I’ve used a bunch of desktop authoring tools – Lectora, Dreamweaver, Authorware, Captivate, and Articulate to name a few. I haven’t really used a lot of web-based authoring tools though. Can also be installed on your server. If you want it on your own server there is a licensing fee.

I had thought that, with my extravagant purchases, I was maintaining the Adobe share price all on my own, but the eLearning Guild's latest research report on authoring and development tools proves otherwise. Simulation tools: #1 Captivate (79%); #2 Flash (45%). Although that may well be an Adobe tool also!

What if you could take any course, regardless of your authoring tool, upload it on the “cloud&# and have it go where you go, no matter where that is, no matter what type of solution it is? Content is hand-crafted (Dreamweaver, Flash) Rapid Collaborative (development efficiency) Enterprise (share info across depts) On-demand -- focus is on target audience -- better access to content. Investment in use of tools is low, so if it doesnt work, youre ok. Most orgs have a blend of these models.
