In response to the demand for more accessible authoring tools, Authorware was born. Using Authorware , learning professionals could create learning programs with hyper-simplistic designs, primarily through dragging and dropping icons. So, simplicity was there for the author, but at the cost of effective learner engagement.

Over the last five years, we’ve seen that change because of efficient and effective rapid authoring tools. It is far more cost-effective and quicker to convert content than to develop it from scratch, which requires effort that may be better spent on business-critical training. legacy tools/platforms (Authorware, Director, etc.)

I “grew-up&# in eLearning world using Director/Authorware and then moving into Flash/HTML (PPT was “off-limits&# ). I have come to appreciate that with some good thought and instructional design you can use most any tool to a decent level of effectiveness. Seems cliché but maybe it’s not about the tool.

Should I write how EdTech scored a huge F this past year, with their continued believe that synchronous based learning is effective? Should I write that way too many vendors think one session to train your administrator(s) is enough to learn the system and if they want more they pay for it?

Feel free to recommend other good books in the comments section. Compared to building courses in Flash or Authorware, the rapid elearning tools are easy to use. Take Advantage of the Free Stuff. There are lots of good free resources available that will help you grow in your skills. Collect free resources.
