Groupings seem like a good idea but feel free to say this is a bad idea, and I’m okay with that. I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. Or a few free tickets to Disneyland. It’s a bad idea before it even goes to market. I chose the groupings route.

I “grew-up&# in eLearning world using Director/Authorware and then moving into Flash/HTML (PPT was “off-limits&# ). Then on the flip-side, I’ve seen some very creative content built with free tools. I’ve seen terrible Flash and Lectora courses even thought they were created in amazing (expensive) tools.

They provided just enough to make us dangerous with HTML, Flash, Photoshop and Authorware. No, I do not use Authorware now, but it is hard to predict what will be an essential tool 10 years down the road. Many tools have trial periods or are free. Five years is tough to predict too, but I will attempt it anyway.

If you are an Authorware fanatic missing the old days, you are still going to miss it – because while these capabilities are being added to tools they are still not at the level of Authorware. Audacity which is free – destroys it. I for one, like that because it has run its course (look a pun!). Audio Editing.

Oh, and access wasn’t free. The majority of people creating the courses used authoring tools, such as Authorware (difficult to learn, but robust), Dazzler Max (I used it, learning curve though), Lectora (difficult to learn) and many others that existed then. ISP (Internet Service Providers) fees were high.

not free, or not 100% open source) and I have to do 100% customization to land a client, I would worry about my cash on hand and debt load. 1 vendor does an initial full customization, then if at a latter point you need to make a couple of standard changes, they need to come back and do more customization, which at that point is not free.

Listen, Authorware is dead, so why create a product that is trying to bring it back to life with your own product? Lots of royalty free stock photo options here – you still have to buy the license mind you, but you can find truly “free” without giving credit to anyone and add it. People like free.

I learned Toolbook and Authorware on my own while in the program. Im one of the unfortunate ones with a actual honest to goodness Masters Degree in EdTech. The degree opens many doors but thats about it. Nothing I learned is actually applied today. The profs understood very little tech.

Thank you Citi for free resource CD! ?. Michael Allen, the man who created/invented Authorware, has started developing a new tool. Driver – “it doesn’t seem like it’s less expensive to do learning activities than it was when Authorware came out.” I use flash video all the time in SharePoint.
