Stephen Downes commented on my recent post - Personal Work and Learning Environments (PWLE) - More Discussion and said - I am opposed to the trend coming from the corporate learning side of the house to treat PLEs as work tools. If it's captured in a system inside the corporate firewall, it won't go outside.

Clearly this is a different use of PLE's than those outside the firewall, for free rangers, and for learning from everything of personal interest. The enterprise provides tools to employees that they can use as part of the PWLE. has changed learning and in reality how it changes tacit work. Stephen tells us.

if people will adopt these tools and approaches over time, then as a corporation, if you want to be able to keep the content after an employee leaves, especially blog content.

Corporations can "personalize" a Professional Learning Environment (aka an LMS), allowing users to add their own widgets; they can allow trainers to update a users training record; they can let the user set preferences. But that does not equal a Personal Learning Environment. This is a wonderful distinction Cammie.
