The RCAT (rapid content authoring tool) market continues to be healthy with nothing to slow it down – uh, except maybe one thing (more on that later). This will become one of the biggest features in 2012 – especially with people wanting to create simulations without being an e-learning developer. Slow growth here.

In 2010, the RCAT market continued its upswing and nothing indicates to me it will be changing anytime soon. The Big Dogs – which in this case, deals more with market share, for the most part continued to push forward, yet from an innovation standpoint, uh, solid, but not outstanding. Lots of ILT vendors – again, the show has always been geared towards this, so no surprise, in fact, ATD formally known as ASTD has always been heavy on ILT and book things, and just in the last few years has seen a major increase in e-learning vendors, with the past show being nearly 50% – the highest ever.

The same thing applies to the learning management system market. Then spend the time to identify the right system for you and your business. But, remember there are 580 systems in the market, and on average, I am seeing about five new ones show up each quarter. Yep, lots of choices in the world today. Not even close.

Freebies from the vendors. Anyway, pens seemed to be the common item. I honestly cannot recall a vendor who had a good giveaway. They offer customizers for the avatar like things, and what I enjoyed most was the games went beyond just a learning journey (yawn!). No, I do not care how it works when it comes to learning.

Right now, you have to upload the course as you would with your SCORM wrapper, where you self-upload or use the course within an online mobile platform from your authoring tool vendor. Just as you can with PENS authoring tools and the systems that support PENS (i.e E-Learning 24/7. with TinCan). It engulfs me.
