Since last year, I worked with IEEE to standardize the Experience API (xAPI) specification. Most of my work is with the IEEE-LTSC but recently a few other IEEE standards groups expressed interest in using xAPI. Meanwhile different needs among xAPI adopters in the learning technology business are becoming clearer. This is important as xAPI moves into standardization and wider adoption. You want to implement your courseware to the SCORM standard if you plan to have it launched and/or tracked under an LMS. SCORM is a fairly easy standard to deal with especially since most people are fine with a single SCO that does only single score/completion reporting. What about other Standards? There are a bunch of other standards by ADL (who is responsible for SCORM ), IMS , IEEE LTSC including CORDRAâ„¢ , LOM , Meta-data , etc.

Such, we’ve learned, is starting a business helping people, businesses and industries make something better for themselves and each other. When we first launched MakingBetter on January 7, 2014, it was with the intent that we’d mostly focus our efforts on a few small projects and workshops while beginning standardization work on xAPI with IEEE-LTSC. Building the business throughout the year created something more than what we started cooking.

I worked with business analysts, IT and communications teams on governance for these new technologies. Last heard ADL calls this new standard the Experience API? (on ADL, IEEE and many people and businesses talking about this technology call it xAPI. I was told xAPI is in IEEE’s hands? What is IEEE? IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers — an international, industry standards body. Standardization?
