A lot of great products out there this year, new updates and latest versions; new companies, new services and just some real innovation. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). Learn.com offered some robust SL capabilities, but you have to pay for one of their premium versions to have it.

The challenge though is that there are customers who have no desire and zero interest to use or have a TM in their system. Even if it is integrated at no additional charge, there are customers who will never use it. Continued increase in the number of vendors, regardless of size or target customer size (i.e What do you do?

I removed any vendor built 100% on free open source or open source whereas it is always 100% customized so that one could build a mega monster or build a 1995 version. Customer support folks use the product too (or can). While I track now 1,300 learning systems around the world, the rankings are based on 1,000.

In general, custom development shops – but it is misleading because there are many folks going solo as freelancers which increases the pot, so to speak. . Workbooks (e-version), and other types of learning resources is on its way (some already have arrived) – but this type of content will be big in 2019. Video is here.

I feel bad for the folks who were learn.com, then thought Taleo would improve it, then Oracle. D2L has an Enterprise version, I wouldn’t use it, I get why they are jumping into Corporate, hint it has to do with money (potential). SumTotal by Skillsoft. Saba Learning. Cornerstone OnDemand. But wasn’t. iSpring Online.
