Features include: ability to view (offline) or via a native HTML web app, preview feature for iPad – ideal to verify that what you are publishing for mobile actually looks and works as it is intended, iPad, Android and Blackberry support (why?), The pro version is really geared towards instructional designers and e-learning developers.

Engage is the only product you can edit the HTML – using a HTML Kit. Case in point: Use of the term “slides” Any e-learning developer would know that the proper term is pages, as in Chapter-Pages. Granted the changes are limited but at least it is something. The rest you can’t. .

Engage isn’t – which is a shame, because it is only one you can edit with HTML Kit (shh it’s a secret) and the Encode – I have always believed was a toss in. Well besides my rankings of course, think about this: 1st vendor to offer collaboration and peer review. 1st vendor to have online/offline mobile synch.

If you are an e-learning developer or instructional designer this has always been a favorite feature of authoring tools. There are plenty of vendors who are doing this – but here is just a short sample of those who are offering components that should become a staple in authoring tools as a whole. Bottom Line.

Buttons, menus and design that makes no sense, to anyone – with placement that is not even remotely logical or user driven. 1 vendor does an initial full customization, then if at a latter point you need to make a couple of standard changes, they need to come back and do more customization, which at that point is not free.
