What is SAAS and why is hosted better than having it on your own servers. The bottom line without getting technical or overly detailed, the solution is hosted on your vendor’s servers and not hosted on your internal servers. Benefits versus having it on my servers (behind my firewall).

What is of note, is that this is not new in terms of systems being offered “in the cloud” This was happening back when e-learning began, with quite a few systems in the cloud by 2002. Systems that are only available as hosted on your own servers are starting to significantly decline. Prediction. I love this!

If you want to track in a learning management system or learning platform that supports SCORM then you want it. If your goal is just to post the course on a server and let people access it, just for the sake of learning and you don’t care about tracking of any sort – then no, you do not need any compliance standard.

This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.
