Innovation abounded and the push to focus on the “PPT to Flash&# angle continued to shine. iPod, mobile phones, YouTube, message boards, e-mail. Import and convert PPT to the web, add rich media. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. Some acquisitions, some goodbyes, but overall very strong.

This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

The two biggest negatives IMO, is that it just isn’t robust enough for e-learning developers and its whole focus on PPT into converting to a course doesn’t help. Case in point: Use of the term “slides” Any e-learning developer would know that the proper term is pages, as in Chapter-Pages.

Even one vendor who only offers desktop has a forum setup for collaborative and peer review services. The collaboration – enabling instructional designers or every day folk to work on a course or courses together, is smart. Remember when only a few offered the PPT to Flash option in their tools?
