I shot off the usual reasons, the benefits, the gains and then found myself expanding into the next possibilities of where a system and content authoring tool had to go. For vendors, they could make it happen and generate revenue. Even with slideshare, you can actually post e-books and other documents, so it follows suit in a system.

Each one of these features could be implemented into systems in six months or less. Your end users make up that mass, and a statement I hear often is that people aren’t staying in the systems to fully benefit from it. Works even when offline. Manually sets bandwidth limits, eliminating hog of your system resources.

A native app that enables you view the courses on your mobile device with online/offline synch. Even if the product is a desktop product all you need to do is upload the course to your own web server, use the vendor’s web server or via a LMS. Online/Offline synch. It is included in the system at no charge.

More of a surprise is that with the exception of 6 web conferencing vendors, who have apps specifically for the iPad/iPad2 market, you can count on one hand the number of LMS/LCMS vendors that offer the same thing. I surmise that many of you do this, at least with photographs, whether it be offline (downloaded software) or online.

For the past month, I have been conducting a survey on learning platforms and specifically learning management systems. . The data shows that what many vendors assume end users want is far from accurate. Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems.

Dozens of LMS vendors, had typos on their web pages, zero screens of the system, links that went nowhere and two kicked up my Firewall warning of possible privacy collection and one had a Trojan Horse (I use a hardcore firewall and A/V). It appears in the SAAS model with some small dog LMS vendors. E-Learning 24/7.

The ones who may not are those who identify themselves as “Training mgt systems and alike” – because they are really focused on the course authoring tool and are not a LMS in the true sense of the word. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors).
