I’ll be the first to admit, that I was not a big fan of the previous versions of the Plateau system. After viewing the Plateau TMS, my concerns in one area have been eliminated, in others, not so much. Plateau LMS is a Talent Management System, made up of four modules. Plateau Learning. Plateau Performance.

I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). Extended Enterprise – System must have e-comm, multi-tenet – fully skinnable, additional functionality. Runner-Up Social Learning Management System of the Year – Upside Learning.

CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. CBT was the “new” and exciting way to learn. Then comes along AOL (did you know folks still have an AOL e-mail account? I used them).

You will not forget them when you view a demo, nor when you are looking at the company’s web site or literature. I often hear people say they want mobile learning in their solution, social learning, e-commerce, but when you ask for specifics they sometimes have a blank stare on their face. Specifics.

I have seen over 150 systems, 80 plus authoring tools, dozens of web conferencing products, mobile learning, quiz assessment tools, CMSs and learning portals, and not everyone of them meets those two statements. Learning Management Systems, LCMS, Learning Portals. Plateau Talent Management System.

The downer on the latter is they are cutting short the feature sets that are possible in an EE, such as multiple domains – standalone, rather than shared on one portal, with sub-portals or having incentive points. I still believe this will be a winner in 2012, and that more vendors will jump into this space. Prediction.
