CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. You could say for everyone learner or just a group of learners, you could do this for every publisher that the vendor offered. WBT (Web-Based Training). Who led the market?

They so buy into it, as the best way to learn X or Y, that there is a movement to add synchronous-based learning, back in the day, we referred to SBL as sticking the classroom teaching method online. On top of all that, the LXP vendors (as a whole) pushed a false pretense that the LXP was vastly different than say an LMS. The problem?

Oh, and not the first vendor I’ve seen this route, but that was more than a decade ago. There are vendors who pitch they have it, and there are folks who oversee L&D who still believe in it. IOL has been available, as a method since 2004. There are vendors who show it as a playlist or offer multiple playlists.

In my upcoming NexGen Leader Pack (coming in late July), the majority are LMS vendors. I think as systems evolve with Gen-AI and the LLM, tailored can get even better – but we are still so very early; any vendor that says “100% we do it,” there are always, “What about this?” LMS vendor.

In the past year, I have seen a wider number of vendors including the PENS course standard, which in my opinion, enables anyone who builds courses, a streamlined and fast process for publishing into a LMS/learning platform. After getting my PhD in Educational/Counseling psychology I went to work for a small startup, GeoLearning.

PLT is the converse of the more traditional learning method known as “push” or “assigned” learning. GeoLearning. All without need to understand programming code. Learn.com is also introducing “Pull Learning Technology” (PLT) through a Module we are calling MyProfile. Prior LMSs in the kick-ass series: Cornerstone OnDemand.

Indeed, many traditional eLearning vendors ventured into the market though not in the volume or with the fanfare we had postulated twelve months ago. As predicted, the methods and tools needed for mobile content authoring and delivery also matured a generation or two over the “season” and a few new use cases for mobile learning appeared too.
