Wikis for Improving Productivity

Experiencing eLearning

I’m liveblogging the webinar Growing in a Down Market with PBwiki. Then used spreadsheet on a central server, but people working from home couldn’t access it. Security levels of PBwiki are sufficient for the financial industry. A: PBwiki has revision tracking built in; they don’t do any other backups on their own. PBwiki does backups on 3 servers plus offsite backups, so businesses don’t need to do it. Q: Fee structure for PBwiki.

Where are open source learning applications?

Tony Karrer

If you look at the slow creep up the application stack of open-source solutions (OS, app server, database, CRM), then its easy to see the pattern. Having used surveymonkey, blogger, pbwiki and other tools quite a bit - it's even better than open source and even less expensive (open source you need time/dollars to get it up and going). And not surprisingly, vendors are encouraging the trend–Microsoft and IBM have added wikis and blogging capabilities to enterprise apps including SharePoint and Lotus Quickr, while Google and upstarts like Socialtext, PBwiki, and Jive Software are luring corporate users with freebie accounts and dead-simple deployment. I was reading the collaboration section of a magazine geared to IT professionals when I came upon an article titled Cat-Herding Nightmare.

Firewalls and Security in Software as a Service

Tony Karrer

We had no trouble with our PBWiki. Although SaaS vendors invariably emphasize the resources they devote to security, many customers remain uncomfortable with their employee and customer data flying over the Internet, not to mention potentially residing on the same data-center server as their rivals'. One of the interesting outcomes of my recent course - Collaborative Learning Using Web 2.0

We Need a Wiki in a Wiki

Our server farm is stretched too thin and we are preparing for an infrastructure upgrade so it wouldn't be a good time to install anything additional to any of our servers. There are quite a few hosted solutions that specialize in Media Wiki and I have also been referred to PBWiki and Project Forum. It's obvious that a Wiki would be a great help in my organization. A few years ago we started using SharePoint and now we are SharePoint junkies.
