For months, I have been thinking of penning my two pence worth in my ID blog, but never got around to overcoming the inertia. We are still on our first generation e-learning courses—the linear, click and reveal types, where, for most corporate training departments, cost cutting is the major goal for shifting to the e-learning mode.

Even folks who are quite knowledgeable about the term, may be in for a shock – because that term you read about so often is referring to gamification on the workplace, F2F (face to face) training or in classroom – AND what the industry identifies as gamification: The Training and EDTech World. PowerPoint still reigns – If you are a course purist, the idea that PPT should be seen as an authoring tool should make you grumble with disgust. . Yes, you can use it for many different things, and yes, Microsoft has an add-on that turns PPT into something similar to Adobe Presenter. PowerPoint is presentation software.

I would like to see an example of a training session that focuses on how to use PP and Articulate in a software training session. (I Ryan, as far as the question about software training, go to community forums , they have a lot of good resources in there and you can get more specific help and answers about Articulate.

You can sort a cup of miscellaneous pens in 10 different ways, and certain pens will group together based on certain characteristics. Each pen, while it may have commonalities with others, is still unique. Ditto with people.

An alarming rate of “get the content up now, ASAP&# regardless of what it looks like, instructional design is typically tossed out the window, especially when the ID, CD or whomever is tasked to create is handed a stream of documents in Word or PPT or some other form. Quick, Immediate, Easy to Use. Simulations only. As for the others?
