Allen is a leader in the field of design, developing and delivering online instruction. He founded the computer-based course authoring tool Authorware in 1984 and later formed Macromedia through a merger which was then bought by Adobe Systems. Apparently the book has stirred a little controversy around the topic of ADDIE.

For those of us who were there the first time around, we saw quite a bit with e-learning and the world for online corporate learning. The dominating authoring tool by far, was Authorware. Authorware usage and fan base made Storyline supporters and usage look like a rock stage at a state fair. I went with a Hybrid form of ADDIE.

CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. The Birth of Online Here comes the internet, Mosaic 2.1 It’s called online learning for a reason, because it is via the internet – online.

Not only has he been a driver and an advocate for online learning, but he moved beyond. I met Jay for the first time at the Online Educa Conference. PowerPoint is not E-Learning and shouldn’t be used as your course tool/development – For whatever reason, there are people who have been around online learning for years, who still see PPT as a means for the creation of content – i.e. courses. Nope, it was far better – because it was online!
