If you go way back to “ancient” learning days, circa the 80s, there was learning content and learning systems (on local area networks or wide area networks ( LAN and WAN, neither of which were online ), but they only talked with each other if they were from the same vendor or used a proprietary approach. vs SCORM 2004 as it was newer.
