The problem though is that Instructor-Led training doesn’t work, not from an adult learner standpoint, not from an attendee standpoint, not even from the standpoint of many folks who have utilized the power of e-learning (hence its extensive growth over traditional learning of ILT). Retention Realities with ILT. Why is that?

With great anticipation I entered the huge expo at ASTD International show earlier this week. I would estimate that there was a 60-40 split, still instructor led driven, but even a significant number of the ILT vendors were offering subsets or capabilities to turn their ILT into online via webinars or online courses.

I received an inquiry about the need for a low cost LMS solution and I've not had time to help this person with answers. We have roughly 500 learners and would use the LMS for mainly tracking and registration of ILT courses, communication (possibly through message boards), and posting of class materials. What would you suggest?

Just think about that, from an ILT standpoint, or seminars. They jumped headfirst into VR, ignoring the costs, and so on. Second Life (ATD, then known as ASTD, have a location in it). EdTech, I could immediately see a potential there, although EdTech’s track record on solutions such as this, is a mixed bag.
