Someone came up with the idea of an LCMS (RIP) Community of Practice (yuck, first it went the way of the dodo bird, then has made a comeback – just like the dodo bird – which is being re-created genetically). I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. At the time, I hated it.

Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. Listen, Authorware is dead, so why create a product that is trying to bring it back to life with your own product? Over 98% of the LMS/LCMS/learning platform have at least one compliance standard, so why use a RCAT that doesn’t?

Rapid Content Authoring Tools: Market, Mayhem and Reality

Is it PowerPoint converted to Flash? Microsoft Word converted to Flash? Macromedia Authorware and similar products. While some could argue that Authorware was a RCAT, I disagree. PowerPoint or Word converted to Flash, instant, virtually no add-ons, i.e. additional learning objects. Macromedia Director. Bad Trends.
