Someone came up with the idea to create templates for developing courses quickly – and no, it wasn’t someone from Adobe or Articulate. I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. The person who saw the template potentially hit it out of the park. At the time, I hated it.

If you are an Authorware fanatic missing the old days, you are still going to miss it – because while these capabilities are being added to tools they are still not at the level of Authorware. HTML5 templates. Anyway, I expect this number i.e. number of vendors to offer more than 10 interactive templates to rise.

Sure, you can use the extensive list of tools on the market, but for those who want real power and complexity ala from the days of Authorware, pickings are slim. SCORM compliance and/or AICC – there are tools out there who support neither – but that is not the norm and there are a few tools out there who also support PENS.

Templates – growing at quick clip. Listen, Authorware is dead, so why create a product that is trying to bring it back to life with your own product? The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant.

This is not the same thing as picking some templates and scenarios and building, rather a strong sim will expect you to have instructional design and e-learning development skills. 2004, AICC, PENS, TinCan) would be equally relevant. Hierarchy/Tree view – Focused on course elements, objects, etc. If you are new, you can build.

Templates with some learning objects? Macromedia Authorware and similar products. While some could argue that Authorware was a RCAT, I disagree. WYSIWYG templates (either one flavor or multiple flavors) and minimal capabilities inc. PENS was created in 2005 by AICC as a new interoperability standard.
