When I present the concept, I talk about sorting a mug full of pens and pencils. You can sort it pens, markers, pencils. Regardless, youre still working with the same set of pens, and the fat red marker has individual attributes, but some commonalities with markers, red and fat items. You can sort it red, black, blue and other.

I usually lunge for the mute button, but often I still have to wait for the now-silent narration to finish before Im allowed to move on. Im with you. Of course, this is all just my unfounded and profoundly biased opinion (Im very very visual). Each pen, while it may have commonalities with others, is still unique.

Cammy, I think you make a great distinction between storage and processing -- it reminds me of some of the cognitive theory, where we have to work with stuff in short-term memory both to help encode whatever the stuff is, and to be able to retrieve and work with it again later.
