The majority of people creating the courses used authoring tools, such as Authorware (difficult to learn, but robust), Dazzler Max (I used it, learning curve though), Lectora (difficult to learn) and many others that existed then. What to learn a new skill? Of course they could learn a new skill. Yet, very popular.

Cornerstone OnDemand (for learning) – One of the early ones for corporate learning, still around, and despite what many think, they were a leader in 2020 for Tier 4 NexGen features. Lectora will note the same, but I never found it to be an RCAT. Skills building/development/ongoing feature sets are awesome. Onto the Show.

The cornerstone of online course development methodology is rapid authoring software such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and Lectora Inspire. Today, it is possible to develop a 60-minute e-learning course in about 3 weeks, using this methodology. These tools can be used easily without any knowledge of programming.

A leader, at least in the early 2000s, Lectora is no longer part of Trivantis, because Trivantis the company was sold to eLearning Brothers (where Lectora now sits). Skills continues to drive a lot of content, which wait for it, is tied around the skills needed for the job role. Cornerstone acquired Saba, and Clustree.

Lectora on the other hand, has an online authoring tool, but for whatever reason continues to have it lag behind in features to their desktop tool, and continues to push their VR authoring tool more so, in my opinion, then the authoring tool itself. Many buyers of Articulate think that Storyline is an online authoring tool, it isn’t.
