Software simulation tool (Firefly) and Mzinga Publisher are extra, i.e. there is an additional cost – it is not automatically included in the OmniSocial product. It would be nice if Mzinga listed these two offerings with the wording of “additional or add-on cost&# on their web site. Sadly, they don’t.

Mzinga is clearly targeted at the learning space, being integrated with an LMS. Drupal is an open source CMS that’s been used for social media, and Elgg similarly started as an open source portfolio tool but has expanded. A more direct measure, the knowledge grown, seems to be a really exciting opportunity.

Anecdotally times are incredibly tough right now for training vendors. But I've talked to training vendors who are down 30 – 60% on their sales in the first quarter. In having lots of conversations with heads of training departments, training vendors, and training consultants, it's not at all clear what we should be selling instead.
