It was a confusing challenge for me, because it offers so much capabilities and strengths, so I define it as a true social learning management system (standalone) that offers extra power for a customer to select specific apps and use them in the customer’s portal or web site or in some fashion with their own learning management system.

Mercury Module – specifically the banners component, although new stories is interesting – it already exists in quite a few systems, same thing with contests and polls. One of the first vendors to include the video boxes on the home page, rather than just the text for course title, etc. Pricing is extremely inexpensive. .

This will become one of the biggest features in 2012 – especially with people wanting to create simulations without being an e-learning developer. Assessment/Survey/Polls – If your product doesn’t have it – you need it. I hope it does – especially with SaaS products. It isn’t.

Moodle can be a worthwhile system but it requires heavy customization, dedicated IT person who has Moodle skill sets (ideal), in-house support (because when end users can’t figure it out – they will come calling YOU) and costs that many folks fail to realize. The product supports mobile, which is another plus.

From products that ranged from the latest versions of RCATs to new vendors in the space, including text to speech. . FT’s Aura product. Most of folks tie them to virtual worlds, but they have been used in the past with courses – customized mind you, but they are not “new” the scene. .

It is what makes any product or service, aspire to new heights. I especially love it when it happens in the e-learning industry. Product updates, some new features – but boring town. When they hit stride, other vendors take notice and soon, the lemming revolution begins. Innovative Products.
