Let’s face it – RFI/RFP documents sent over to learning system vendors are massive tomes that confuse, challenge and even baffle some vendors. Then you have RFP/RFIs that lack substance. The fact of the matter is nobody loves creating RFP/RFIs. They can be 25 pages. 50 pages, even 100 pages or more.

Word docs, one pagers in text, and similar – short and right to the point. One vendor is focused only on SaaS products including social media. For example, a lesson topic could be on Linkedin, and each lesson tied to a specific area within Linkedin. After all this is “chunk” content.

Yeah, you can upload word docs, PPT, etc. Actually, I do blame: Vendors who still post RFP templates on their site – which by the way tend to be geared towards themselves. Organizations who recommend the value of RFPs and either have a link to an RFP template or how to do a RFP. Just a guess here! Guess what?

These discussions center on what requirements should go into an LMS RFP and more broadly how the LMS should really be integrated into the organization. For web pages, wiki pages, PDFs, Word Docs and other standard content that's easy. I've had a similar discussion several times over the past few months. For courseware it can be hard.
