I was surprised at the number of vendors offering a blended product – with ILT as more of the focus then their WBT counterpart. These were a few vendors that made me say interesting and real potential. For PPT lovers, you can synch video files with PPT with drag and drop. Thus you can have on-site training.

Mindflash.com bills itself as a training management system, with the ability to create and upload courses, invitee end users (learners) and track results. What I found was a solution that is a rapid e-learning authoring tool that offers easy to use functions as uploading learners and basic tracking results. E-Learning.

My Training – courses selected, date, start/not yet started/completed, launch. Browse for Training – think course catalog. Month at a Glance – view upcoming instructor led trainings or webinars. Browse for Training – typically identified by subject then drill down (example: accounting, finance).

However, they continue to incorporate some instructor led training components, which is a disservice to an otherwise nice product. E-mail specific slides to subject matter experts for review. Inability to have course be non-linear when live; it stays linear (another typical ILT feature), hint: WBT’s power is non-linear.

An alarming rate of “get the content up now, ASAP&# regardless of what it looks like, instructional design is typically tossed out the window, especially when the ID, CD or whomever is tasked to create is handed a stream of documents in Word or PPT or some other form.
