May Edition: E-Learning News and Notes

eLearning 24-7

In this month’s issue, my tribute is to the 80′s a time where the Net wasn’t around, ILT was the dominant force, CBT was up and coming and WBT was just a dream. The partner approach works this way: vendor A integrates Vendor B’s solution into their product. Vendor B can still sell their product as a stand alone or however this wish to do it and can still sell it/integrate or use an interface into additional vendor’s solutions.

Nice selection of vendors – in general. More goodies then in the past, but the vendor with the awesome monkeys – it was nearly impossible to get one – you had a better chance of allowing them to stick leeches on you, then getting one – what’s the point of marketing – if the product you want to show – yours – isn’t walking the floor with folks. Less vendors scanning people’s ID badges, which I found interesting.

Leader board within “Connect” their social learning component – however, I did not see any type of incentive tied to it. Social Learning in general – can’t anyone come up with something fresh? E-mail specific slides to subject matter experts for review. E-Mail notifications and reminders. Terms “trainer” and “trainee” – these are instructor led terms, not e-learning. Requirement for the “trainer” to have their e-mail address before course is launched – why? Inability to have course be non-linear when live; it stays linear (another typical ILT feature), hint: WBT’s power is non-linear.

What I found was a solution that is a rapid e-learning authoring tool that offers easy to use functions as uploading learners and basic tracking results. Each PowerPoint slide appears in order, following your PPT order. For example: your first PPT slide is on the timeline then you add a word document, next an image file, another slide (your 2nd one in the deck u uploaded), then audio/movie and so on. ppt slide, quiz, image, etc.). Name and e-mail address is not.

That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. Okay, before jumping in, I want to thank all those who attended my session, E-Learning 2020. . I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. .
