Though some Flash platforms tools like the Flex SDK are freely available from Adobe, for animation and design you still need to depend on Adobe’s Creative Suite of tools – which is not free. Currently the most common way to publish a Captivate project is as a Flash SWF, an excellent solution because SWF files can be used by the vast majority of the world's personal computers, browsers and operating systems. According to Adobe, the Flash Player is installed on the vast majority of the word's computers.

That is fine for pure linear projects but personally I largely prefer custom navigation and buttons for my projects which will seldom be linear. I suppose all developers are aware that the final death of Flash Player, SWF output will be there sooner than expected. Skin editor. Preview Methods.
