Articulate Rise – If you have any experience with basic web development, Articulate Rise will give you the ability to create web-based courses using web services. Lectora has a steep learning curve, but once understood, users will be able to turn out quality web-style content on it.

Be aware the web site is in need of an overhaul – i.e. don’t judge the system because of the web site. Systems that come in cheap or say they are free or look like they just learned java and HTML. Udutu LMS – Their price point is fair value – actually it is very inexpensive. Borderline.

I haven’t really used a lot of web-based authoring tools though. Recently, I’ve been exploring collaborative web-based options for a report I’m writing and was reintroduced to MyUdutu (from Udutu). I was surprised to learn that the tool is FREE as an SaaS solution. Did I say boatload of templates?

Then I went on to show about 12 tools in more detail – some of which would probably make it onto a top ten list (Flash, Captivate, Articulate, and Lectora) – the remaining tools trying to hit at some of the other options out there (Smart Builder, eXe, Udutu, Thinking Worlds, Raptivity, Flypaper, Mohive, and Atlantic Link).
