Tuesday, July 10, 2007 The Real World, SecondLife and FaceBook/MySpace Over the past few weeks Ive conducted about 17 interviews with current college students and recent graduates. A few trends: Not ONE person has even heard of Second Life. A couple of people also had MySpace accounts. Too much information is out there.

I also kept the LibraryThing listing books Im currently reading (or have read or intend to read at some point.), I just deleted a bunch of stuff and/or tried to incorporate it into my About Page. I did keep the Instructional Design Resources list, which seems to be useful to people. as this does get a lot of interest (aka "hits").

Im a Word power-user and love all the little tricks and shortcuts. All of my project information is in one place. Now Ive left Word behind and am writing everything directly in the wiki. Ive had to get used to the formatting -- or lack thereof. I miss them. But the payoff is huge. I dont have to open 800 documents.

Then again, perhaps Im missing something. Monday, July 02, 2007 The Gin System As Ive been trying to sort out the role of FaceBook lately, I cant help but wonder "wheres the content?" It seems to me that FaceBook is a great networking tool. You can point people to outside links, but I havent yet seen a great way to include content.

The Connected Worker 21st century knowledge worker/learner "Im only as good as my network." Kids use tools like MySpace, FB etc. We now have an abundance of information. Next topic will be on Second Life/virtual worlds. I feel like I just downloaded a whole lot of great information! Do it when you want.

Back to the Google Desktop -- Im playing around a bit with the searching capabilities and am seeing the light. Im struggling a bit with figuring out how to set the preferences so that it searches where I need it to search (I save most of my files to a shared network drive; not locally). So the search feature -- I get that and Im sold.
