MyUdutu: One of those best kept secrets in e-learning authoring tools

Recently, I’ve been exploring collaborative web-based options for a report I’m writing and was reintroduced to MyUdutu (from Udutu). I had used the tool once a couple of years ago for a class and watched a demo of their Facebook integration over a year ago. I spent an hour or so with Roger from Udutu looking at their authoring tool and have to say I’m really kind of blown away as to its capabilities.

Udutu is one of such tool which uses templates for authoring. While developing courses using our internal rapid authoring framework, we often use a few custom complex interactivities – like small games – developed through Flash and integrate it in the course as external interactivity.

Then I went on to show about 12 tools in more detail – some of which would probably make it onto a top ten list (Flash, Captivate, Articulate, and Lectora) – the remaining tools trying to hit at some of the other options out there (Smart Builder, eXe, Udutu, Thinking Worlds, Raptivity, Flypaper, Mohive, and Atlantic Link). After my session at ISPI earlier this week, someone commented that what would have really been useful is a list of the top 10 authoring tools in the market.
