At work we do use social tools such as Skype, Yahoo Messenger and YouTube for learning purposes. Research indicates a direct correlation to the discipline of knowledge-management. There has been a shifting focus towards dynamic knowledge creation and identifying sources and processes involved with learning.

The point that I am trying to make is that standards and breadth of functionality are hugely important and to make the assumption that the term ‘open source’ automatically translates into these can lead to uninformed decision-making and projects that don’t reach their expected ROI.
