MIT OpenCourseWare Launches Interactive Transcripts and Video Search

3Play Media

MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) today launched a beta site featuring our interactive transcripts and video search plugins. Video search has become increasingly important for MIT OCW, which has grown to over 2,100 online courses covering virtually all MIT undergraduate and graduate courses taught at MIT. Transcripts and captions are not new for MIT OCW, which has been diligently captioning videos to accommodate users with hearing disabilities.

Failure of Creative Commons Licenses

Tony Karrer

The one good thing that came out of it was that at least MIT recognized this failure and has additional information: MIT Interpretation of "Non-commercial" ": Non-commercial use means that users may not sell, profit from, or commercialize OCW materials or works derived from them. The guidelines below are intended to help users determine whether or not their use of OCW materials would be permitted by MIT under the "non-commercial" restriction.

Tony Karrer

Prediction #9 => Open Content I’m not sure why this already hasn’t had a bigger impact, but workplace learning is going to start to catch up on the value of OCW and OER. As is the fact that we need to design for the User Interface Beyond the Web Site. Before I start with any of my actual predictions, let me throw in an overall prediction that the year is going to start off slow for most people, but by the end of the year, we will all be thinking: “Wow, 2010 was a crazy year!”
