For example, with an application like Quizmaker you’re inclined to focus on the quizzing because that’s what it’s designed to do. So when you want to build a quiz, you use Quizmaker. I use PowerPoint to edit my graphics, create illustrations, videos, and Flash movies. This is why most quizzes have that boxy quiz look.

At the recent ASTD conference we demonstrated a bunch of elearning tips and tricks. Vegas-inspired Flash Cards. Use this for a quiz template or quick knowledge check. This is one of my favorite Quizmaker demos. Vermont ASTD on September 17 from 9:00-12:00. Baton Rouge ASTD on October 12.

I created this demo from one of the Flash examples that Allen Interactions shares on their site. I think you’ll agree that while PowerPoint’s not going to give you the programming options that you’d get in Flash or Storyline , it still is a very capable tool and does allow for effective elearning. Most rapid elearning tools are like Articulate Presenter and convert PowerPoint slides to Flash (and soon HTML5). And they can be augmented using a series of form-based tools like Quizmaker and Engage. Or if you’re using other products you’ll add the Flash output to the PowerPoint slide.
