Ten Predictions for eLearning 2008 ), I took a bit of heat, but looking at the trends - Games down! So are simulations and virtual labs. Any kind of training that requires significant upfront effort is going to come under increasing fire. Oh, here was my prediction ... Prediction #8 => Serious Games - Seriously Sorry, Not for You They will continue to get talked about A LOT.... I'm glad I didn't predict those trends at the beginning of the year. I would have been wrong. Corporate Training Methods But what about in corporate training?

Jay Cross - father of the Informal Learning Flow has been doing some great writing recently that look at the future of corporate training. His recent posts make me really think (that's good) but also make me wonder ... How many people really have the opportunity to pursue the Future of Corporate Training? More on this below.... In fact, in eLearning Defined , Online Training vs eLearning - Jay and I somewhat agree that it's not all that important to have precise definitions of these terms. But we agreed that it should be a broader definition. Push vs.

This month's question came from a reader the June 2008 Big Question is: Second Life Training? More specifically: In what situations, do you believe it makes sense to develop a learning experience that will be delivered within Second Life? If you were to develop a training island in Second Life, what kind of environment and artifacts would you consider essential for teaching?

I've been struggling a bit to capture a concept that I believe represents a fairly fundamental shift in how we need to think about Training Design. Back in 2005, 2006 and 2007, I would regularly show the following slides to help explain the heart of what Training Design is all about and how it has changed over the years. Oh, and I called it Learning Design in the diagrams, but I'm afraid that it's really more about Training Design.

Some stray thoughts, in no particular order, gathered over time, on the differences between education and training, from the lens of custom content creation for diverse companies across the world. Education (even vocational education) is far transfer; training is near transfer. Hence the obsession of training with application ( “I don’t care what they learn; I’m only interested in how they do their jobs better” ), with reducing time to competence (the Holy Grail of training), with rapid development (they need everybody to be more competent now ).

I received an email today from someone who is looking for online programs (certificate, masters, etc) that offer training in elearning. From the email - University of Calgary has a certificate, the University of Hull in the UK has a masters program, are there any others? Which ones are the best? I have no clue, but I'm hoping that someone can point to suggestions via comments, and/or point to places you would look. By the way, is there a source somewhere for online programs?

Saw a post by Matthew Franz - where he tells us - I don't get e-learning 2.0 - and it made me wonder if Franz is a training specialist - who's not looking at more than training as a model for learning.... I believe what Matthew is questioning (Big-L vs.

I don't remember what I was reading, but the post/article differentiated learning as what the learner does and training as what we do to the person - and hopefully they learn. What's interesting is that eLearning has become pretty much synonymous with Online Training as opposed to use of technology for various kinds of learning.
