It's performance support too! Mobile performance support needs to fit within the overall learning and mobile strategy for your organisation. | | | | | | | | CLARK QUINN JANUARY 6, 2012 Performance Architecture Yet the vision driving this is, to me, truly inspiring: augmenting our performance in the moment and developing us over time in a seamless way, not in an idiosyncratic and unaligned way. The performance model is wrong: it’s not all in the head, it’s distributed across tools and systems. Finally, on top of that , it’s about making performance visible and looking at the performance across the previous level, facilitating learning to learn. It needs a new design that starts from the performance gap and looks at root causes. | SOCIAL LEARNING BLOG JANUARY 8, 2012 How to Improve Learning Outcomes With Performance Support Given that the goal of instructional designers and training developers is to improve employee performance, it’s surprising that many continue to create blended learning programs with little or no reliance on performance support tools or systems. Build performance support into every blended learning effort. Select the right performance support tool for your situation. | SOCIAL LEARNING BLOG AUGUST 26, 2011 Your Brain: The Ultimate Electronic Performance Support System We at Dashe & Thomson have for years been at the forefront of the development of Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSSs), which are designed to allow employees to quickly and easily access role-based, bite-sized information at the exact point in time when they need it. performance supportI had always been one who, back in the days of the physical newspaper (remember those?), | SOCIAL LEARNING BLOG APRIL 18, 2012 Three (More) Keys to Better Performance Support It appears that more Learning & Development professionals are starting to value performance support as a critical component of any blended learning program. In my last post, I mentioned three things to keep in mind when considering performance support (PS). performance support electronic performance support systems EPSS task structuring user-generated content | | | | | | | | | -
LEARNING VISIONS | TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 2010 Bob Mosher: Performance Support and Learning at the Moment of Need #ls2010 So welcome to performance support. Today’s session: Fundamental principles and practices of performer support Help you begin the journey of applying them. Allison Rossett – Job Aids & Performance Support. She says “call it performance support and not informal, cuz you can’t get a CFO to pay for informal learning.” What learners want with Performance Support – “give me the answer!” This is where performance support comes in. When trying to remember and/or apply when things change when something goes wrong These last 3 are performance support. MORE >> -
CLARK QUINN | FRIDAY, MARCH 25, 2011 Thinking through performing and learning That includes not only the performance skills but also meta-learning, and I decided it was also time to take another stab at capturing the concept as a graphical representation. Here we are interested in how do we evaluate our own performance, look at what we’re doing and how we can get better at it, and support ourselves through the change. Again as preparation for our upcoming presentation (you can attend!), I was thinking about the skills necessary to cope in this new information age. Here, I start with the hermeneutic notion of how we act in the world and learn. MORE >> -
Stereotyping Affects Learning and Performance If you need additional evidence that expectations of self and others shape how well people perform on tasks, just read Claude Steele’s new book , “Whistling Vivaldi: And Other Clues to How Stereotypes Affect Us.” In an interview by NPR “Talk of the Nation” host Neal Conan, Steele answers questions about how his 20 years of research reported in the book shows that when a math task is important to women, their performance is affected by the stereotype that all women are poor at math. If you give them difficult math, women are always going to under- perform. MORE >> -
Experience-Performance-Reflection The above diagram, by Nick Milton , shows some important aspects of what influences performance [hint: blue]. Therefore there is no such thing as “ knowledge transfer “ Second, performance is taking action on knowledge. This influences the third key point, that reflection of one’s performance is an important part of the learning process and this is often in a social context as well. Learning LMS are disconnected from 1) Experience, 2) Performance & 3) Reflection. Performance Improvement SocialLearningTweet. They observe what we do. It’s MORE >> -
CLARK QUINN | MONDAY, AUGUST 17, 2009 The Performance Environment I’ve represented the performance ecosystem in several ways in the past, and that process continues to occur. In the process of writing up a proposal to do some social learning strategizing for an organization, I started thinking about it from the performer perspective. Now, personal learning environments (PLE) is not a completely new concept, and quite a number of folks contributed their PLEs here. However, I wasn’t creating mine so much as a conceptual framework, yet it shares characteristics with many. So, what do you think? Am I missing a channel? A connection? MORE >>
