Jay: The Internet Time Alliance is a community of practice. Forming the Alliance community was easily the best professional development move of my career. Lots of L&D people have been beguiled by the notion of ROI. However, we think it (the alliance) is still a bit of a mystery to many people in the industry.

COPs – aka communities of practice were a novel idea in the early 2000’s for online learning, first seen with WLAN or LAN networks. You, as the admin or the person overseeing the whole training or L&D or Education department, looks at the percentage data, sees high completions, and says, “see, ROI!”
