I came across this mind map by Cammy Bean which covers nearly all the tools available for creating/authoring eLearning content. Here are some features that eLearning professionals generally expect from authoring tools –. Should be able to import/export content (like PPT, DOC, or simple HTML), and allow for edits after import.

To focus more on rapidly authored eLearning content, I am excluding the screen recording tools which are mainly used for software simulation type of courses. But such tools may not be suited for all types of eLearning courses as the fixed behavior templates may pose constraints on the instructional design and creativity.
